In layout it is broadly typical of other farmyards in the area, comprising a roughly 'U' shaped yard with the main access road entering from the 'top' directly opposite the farmhouse while the remaining two sides are occupied by barns and cowsheds. This assortment of buildings has been altered and added-to over the years, as dictated by necessity and at some time in the last century two steel dutch barns have been erected behind the buildings on the left hand side of the yard. The basic plan of the original farmyard, however, is still discernible and externally at least, the older buildings have probably been little changed in the last fifty years. <br> Some of the buildings on site appear still to be in seasonal use; fresh tyre tracks lead up to the site, the barn has been re-roofed and the floors of the stable and cowsheds are still strewn with manure. border=0> <br><br> </center> The farmhouse however, is clearly unused and judging by the state that it's in, hasn't been lived in for years, if not decades. The slate tiled roof sags alarmingly in the middle, large patches of sky are visible through the upper windows and all of the external doors have been taken off of their hinges and wedged sideways across the doorways to prevent access by curious livestock. <br> Inside the house things have fared far worse; every corner of is cold and damp, woodwork is disintegrating and frost has shattered the plaster. Immediately on entering the hallway it becomes apparent that the entire rear part of the house has collapsed, taking the stairs with it. A look up to the upper floor, which is covered in a four inch layer of rubble and leaf litter, and is sprouting a thriving carpet of brambles and grass indicates quite plainly that even if there were some means of doing so, going upstairs would not be a good idea right now. Scrambling over the pile of wood and rubble which was presumably once the stairs, I reach the collapsed part of the hallway, which leads to a bathroom, (that is, a room with a bath in it - there don't seem to be any taps for some reason) and a rubbly room that was probably a kitchen. The door at the end opens onto a wall of brambles, so my only real option is to retrace my steps back to the covered part of the hallway, where a door on the right leads to a small, featureless parlour, while another on the left leads into the dining room, a largish room strewn with feed sacks and the remains of some unidentifiable piece of furniture.
